West Midlands Police Authority Equality, Diversity and Human Rights: Our plans for 2011-12
West Midlands Police Authority will cease to exist in November 2012 and will then be replaced by an elected Police and Crime Commissioner. In the period leading up to this date the Authority will continue to champion Equality, Diversity and Human Rights and scrutinise the activity of the Force from a community perspective. The Authority will also continuously review the Equality, Diversity and Human Rights impact of its own activities.
In particular the Authority will have arrangements in place to:
- Address the Authority's own ways of working and ensure that equalities and human rights considerations are an integral part of all our work
- Influence the culture of West Midlands Police and hold the Chief Constable to account for the effectiveness of West Midlands Police regarding equalities and human rights
In order to achieve this, the Authority has agreed a number of actions for the year. You can see our action plan 2011-12 by clicking on the link below.
The Authority has two lead members for Equality, Diversity and Human Rights. Councillor Judy Foster is one of the two vice-chairs of the Authority, and Mr Roger Hughes is vice-chair of both the Personnel Committee and the Professional Standards and Quality Committee. The two lead members meet regularly with officers to monitor progress against the action plan and they also present regular updates to the other members of the Authority. In June 2011 Councillor Foster also published her annual summary of activity undertaken by the Authority on Equality, Diversity and Human Rights.
