Equalities Scheme
If you would like to let us know your views which will help us in setting the policing priorities, please click below.
We are responsible for securing an efficient and effective police force for your area. In fulfilling this duty we work closely with West Midlands Police and with our local communities and partners. Promoting equality and a respect for diversity is a key and central part of our work, and our equality scheme demonstrates how we aim to achieve this.
Like all public authorities, we are subject to legislation that promotes nine 'protected characteristics' under the Equality Act 2010:
- Age;
- Disability;
- Gender reassignment;
- Marriage and civil partnership;
- Pregnancy and maternity;
- Race;
- Religion or belief;
- Sex; and
- Sexual orientation.
We are required to comply with a range of duties to tackle discrimination and harassment and to promote equality and good relations in everything we do.
Our achievements of 2009-10 are noted in the equality scheme, and our commitments for the current year are described in the equalities action plan.
