Stop and Search
Introduction
If you would like to let us know your views which will help us in setting the policing priorities, please click below.
This section of our website will explain what the police powers to stop and search people in public places are, and how they work.
Stop and Search laws are designed to combat street crime and anti-social behaviour, and prevent more serious crimes, such as terrorism, from occurring.
The information contained here will help you understand why it is done and what you should expect if the police were to stop you.
There is a whole website dedicated to the Stop and Search powers run by the Home Office where further information can be found.
