  • To approve, on behalf of the Authority, the annual audit plan and receive activity reports, from time to time, on its implementation
  • To satisfy the Authority that it is getting value for money from its external auditors, meeting the External Auditor, as deemed necessary
  • To receive and consider, on behalf of the Authority, the External Auditor’s annual Audit Letter and recommend appropriate action to the Authority and/or an appropriate committee/s
  • To make recommendations to the Authority in relation to any proposed revisions to the Authority’s Standing Orders on contracts and financial regulations, including monitor and review of financial delegations to the Chief Constable, Chief Executive and Treasurer
  • To exercise the Authority’s responsibilities in relation to corporate governance, risk management and other regulatory issues falling to be dealt with by the Authority
  • To approve, on behalf of the Authority, the Annual Statement of Accounts and associated financial documentation and ensure publication of these accounts
  • To consider reports and guidance from external agencies including the Auditing Practices Board, HMIC, the Audit Commission and other external auditors
  • To satisfy the Authority that there is sufficient systematic review of internal control arrangements
  • To consider and monitor the implementation of policies issues relating to internal controls
  • To commission investigations on behalf of the Authority on matters relating to internal control
  • To consider the major findings of internal audit investigations, including management responses to recommendations
  • To receive and consider a report form the Treasurer, recording the debts written off
  • To have due regard, in exercising its responsibilities, to equal opportunities generally and the requirements of all equalities and anti-discrimination legislation, including implementation of the equalities schemes of both the Authority and force
  • To consider any other matters deemed relevant to these terms of reference
