Community and Security Committee
- To ensure the effective discharge of the Authority’s consultative and community engagement responsibilities including:
- implementation and review of the Authority’s community engagement strategy
- all matters relating to community engagement facilitated by the Authority
- ensuring that community views inform Authority decision making, including the inclusion of priorities within plans
- To have oversight of the community engagement activities of the force, including work associated with community cohesion
- To report to the Authority on the outcomes from community engagement and consultation activities to ensure that plans reflect local priorities
- To consider and monitor performance against any targets relating to the terms of reference of the committee contained in the national and local target setting frameworks which apply to the force
- To monitor the work associated with counter-terrorism, including force performance
- To monitor the work associated with local policing, including neighbourhood policing
- To monitor the work associated with the force’s intelligence function
- To monitor the delivery of the force’s communication strategy
- To promote and oversee effective partnership working, particularly in respect of community safety and the Authority’s statutory duties to crime and disorder reduction partnerships
- To promote and oversee the Authority’s relationships with other key bodies
- To oversee the effectiveness of partnership working undertaken by the force
- To monitor the work associated with the criminal justice system, including force performance
- To consider reports from external agencies, such as HMIC, external auditors and the Audit Commission
- To consider reports from and monitor the work of the Independent Advisory Group on Race and Equality in Policing
- To monitor the work of the Authority and the force associated with Freedom of Information and data protection
- To have due regard, in exercising its responsibilities, to equal opportunities generally and the requirements of all equalities and anti-discrimination legislation, including implementation of the equalities schemes of both the Authority and force
- To have due regard, in exercising its responsibilities, to risk issues generally and the specific risk issues contained within the force and Authority risk registers
- To consider any other matters deemed relevant to these terms of reference
